When we first started writing the hiraeth narrative, I struggled to think of a topic to write about. Since I've lived in the same place my whole life, there wasn't a literal home that I had left behind for me to write about. After some thinking, I thought of my childhood best friend who I no longer talk to, and how the loss of the friendship between her and I could be considered a metaphorical home that I couldn't return to. This childhood friendship became the basis for the first scene I wrote of my hiraeth, and later my first hiraeth draft. While my first draft had some potential, it needed more detail and "showing not telling" moments. In my second draft, I expanded the story to have several scenes taking place over time with some exposition between to give more details. This helped to show how the friendship deteriorated over time, and illustrate the grief and yearning present in the definition of hiraeth.
